For the Son of Man came to seek
And save those who are lost.*

Doing prison ministry with individuals who are locked up is a challenge...

This environment provides circumstances that the average church goer has no conception of. Yet in spite of the spiritual darkness that tries to blind prisoners to the life changing gospel of salvation through repentance and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, the darkness is no match for the Holy Spirit.
As quoted in Matthew's gospel account, "The people which sat in darkness saw a great light; and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up" (Matthew 4:16 KJV). In this passage, Matthew was quoting from the Old Testament book of Isaiah the prophet, this being Isaiah chapter nine, verse two.
In the end, the Light always wins. And this Light is the Lord Jesus Himself. Not even the negativity which so often seems to permeate the atmosphere inside jails and prisons can keep the Lord out. After all, Messiah Jesus, speaking of Himself, declared that He had come to earth to seek out and save those who are lost.
And where else can one find such a high concentration of transgressors than in a correctional facility? If anything, such a setting fits the image Christ was hoping to convey to His disciples, when He said, "The harvest is great, but the workers are few" (Matthew 9:37 NLT).
So with such a harvest of lost souls in the world, not only in prisons, but everywhere, my prayer is that more of my brothers and sisters will share the Gospel with those who need to near it. May the work get done.
