A Letter to a Satanist
Casting all your care upon the
Lord, because He cares for you.
I Peter 5:7
Thank you for your letter and for taking the time to write. I appreciate your letters and I value your honesty. Thanks for your openness in sharing some of your struggles. While it would take many pages to answer your questions and deal with those various issues, let me assure you that I am praying for you. The power of Jesus Christ is a million, billion, trillion, zillion more times greater than Satan's power. Only Jesus Christ has the power to set you free from Satan's strongholds and whatever else you find yourself to be struggling with. This is why the Bible says there is "victory" in Jesus Christ (I Corinthians 15:57). Also, that, "Whom the Son of God sets free, is free indeed (John 8:36)." If you own a New Testament, you could check these verses out for yourself.
Concerning Satanism, knowing what I now do about it, it is a religion of pure selfishness. This being, "Do as thou will." What could be more self-centered than this? What about other people and how the things I may choose to do would affect them? Satanism encourages a person to hate and look down on others who you may think are ungrateful or who misuse you. But Christ shows us the higher road, this being, forgive even your enemies and to do good to those who spitefully use you. This of course goes against the world's thirst for revenge. But it takes more inner strength to forgive someone and to overlook a wrong.
No wonder Satanism and what is associated with it has made you depressed and anxious. Yes, it can make you into a cold and heartless being, just as you mentioned in your email letter. Again, it is all about selfishness and pride - pride in the sense that you're looking down on everyone else. This, by the way, was the cause of Satan's downfall - pride! He somehow began to think he was better and more powerful than God. He ended up getting kicked out of heaven for this, and his angels (now having become demons) were all kicked out with him. Talk about being a loser!
Yes, there was a time in my life, during much of my childhood and also throughout my teens and into early adulthood when I felt like an outsider, lost and alienated from family and society. But do you know what? Now I realize this was all a lie. My feelings, although real to me, were false. My family loved me and was always trying to reach out to me. But in my satanically deluded mind, I could not see this. I felt alienated. But this was a false feeling. I was deceived. I was not really alienated at all. I had good friends. They liked me. So why did I think so negatively? Perhaps I was under some form of strong demonic attack, but of course had no knowledge of it. I spent countless years in suicidal despair. But now I understand that there was no reason for me to feel this way. Part of Satan's strategy is to blind people to the truth. I spent many years as such a blind man, needlessly living under a dark cloud of depression when happiness and friendship and family were all around me. Sadly, many people are today where I was in years past. They're trapped in a web of lies and false feelings. The Bible says that Satan is the "Father of lies (John 8:44)."
When I surrendered to Jesus Christ, things changed. When I repented of my sins and told Christ that I had had enough of living in sin, madness and bitterness, I asked Him to forgive me. I called out to Him. Jesus didn't reject me. He could have. But He didn't. And He will never reject anyone who has sincere questions, or who seeks Him. John 6:37 tells me that whoever comes to Christ in faith, He will never reject them or push them away (find peace with God). And you do not have to end up in prison. You do not have to die young. That liar, the Devil, will make you think that prison or death, or escaping life by getting high is all that is available to you. Wrong. The Lord Jesus Christ Himself is quoted, saying, "The Devil comes to steal, kill and destroy. But I have come to give you life, and to give it more abundantly (John 10:10)."
Once upon a time, when I was living in satanic darkness and allowed depression to have rule over my life, I could not see or understand that God had a better plan and a good and living hope for me. Now, thankfully, I am living with that hope - it is hope in the person of the Son of God. I'm now on the winning side, and you can be too.
I have to go to work now. Take care and feel free to write anytime. It may take a while to get back to you, but I will reply. Snail mail is slow, but it gets to where it's going. Bye and be well.
Sincerely,
David Berkowitz
