He that dwells in the secret place
of the Most High shall abide under
the shadow of the Almighty.
Psalm 91:1 KJV
During last night's Bible study, I taught on Psalm 91…
of the Most High shall abide under
the shadow of the Almighty.
Psalm 91:1 KJV
During last night's Bible study, I taught on Psalm 91…
It is one of the more popular of the 150 Psalms that are in the Bible. It's a psalm of protection well known by military personnel, and small cards with this psalm printed on them are often passed out to the troops by chaplains in our Armed
Forces.
As is my custom, we went through the psalm, one verse at a time. One man would read it out loud, and then we will discuss it in greater depth. So, beginning with the first verse, which I quoted above, we discussed what this "secret place" might be. It's a place where God keeps us safe and hidden from harm.
To "abide" is to rest in the Lord, and to experience His protection and peace, as well as His comfort. Here we see how Father God shields and hides us from our enemies. Especially from our biggest enemies of all, Satan, and his hordes of demons.
This psalm lets us know we can relax under the shelter of His wings, just as a baby chick can rest under the protective wings of its mother. We saw this as God's love in action. In Christ, we are safe. "No weapon that is formed against a child of God shall prosper" is a promise from the Lord Himself (Isaiah 54:17).
Finally, after we went through all the verses, I had the men stand and read out loud, first in English, and then in Spanish, the second verse of the psalm. "I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in Him will I trust."
I hope the power and majesty of this particular psalm resounded within our hearts.
