The Lord is doing a great work in the lives of the men who are members of the body of Messiah Jesus here at the prison...
In our weekly Bible studies, for instance, men are discovering how receiving God's forgiveness for their sins has also paved the way for inner healing. I know that in my own life God has allowed me to overcome feelings of guilt, shame, and condemnation which had been eating away at me for many years. And this in itself was a tremendous victory.
In addition, we are learning how to forgive ourselves, which is probably the biggest challenge for those with criminal records who have since come to Christ. And this is why the Scriptures are so precious to me, because the Word of God states with full assurance, "Whom the Son of God sets free, is free indeed" (John 8:36).
And as men who have already been forgiven and redeemed by the Lord, we have devoted ourselves to lives of prayer. In fact, only two days ago, during our scheduled monthly prayer meeting, we all joined together to pray for an outpouring of God's Spirit to fall upon those who are incarcerated throughout the world. We prayed for the victims of crime as well, and for their healing. Then for law
enforcement personnel too, because they are just as in need of salvation and redemption as those who are in prison. As the holy Bible declares, "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23).
