To him that overcomes will I grant
to sit with Me in My throne...

As I reported in a fairly recent journal entry, our weekday Bible studies were allowed to resume after being discontinued for several months due to the COVID pandemic.
With my chaplain being out on a prolonged medical leave, I've been filling in to teach our Tuesday evening class, while another man teaches the class on Thursdays. Although our weekend worship services have yet to restart, we're happy to at least have our studies back.
I've been taking the men through chapters two and three of the book of Revelation, which is Christ's personal message to each of the seven different churches listed in the book of Revelation.
We've been discussing and examining what it is to leave your "first love" as the church in the city of Ephesus did (Revelation 2:4). Also, what it means to suffer persecution when the devil casts Christians into prison, like what had happened in the city of Smyrna (Revelation 2:10).
And we looked at the church in the city of Pergamos, where, as the Scripture reveals, "Satan's seat" was located. We discussed what this was, or could have been, and if the devil has any seats of power and influence today? I mentioned two places in modern times that could be places of strong satanic influence. I said Hollywood and Las Vegas. Every one gave a hearty "Amen" to that. We also discussed what the "doctrine of Balaam" consisted of (Revelation 2:13-14).
Next we looked at the church in Thyatira where Christ said the "synagogue of Satan" was located. Was it an actual place? I asked. And we looked at the person of Jezebel the prophetess, who is one of the main characters in this passage. I asked if they thought she was a real person, or a demonic spirit, or both?
Now we're in chapter three where we've been exploring the churches of Sardis, Philadelphia, and Laodicea. The men have shown a keen interest in this, and that's something for me to be thankful for.
