If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive
us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

1 John 1:9
In a recent letter, a friend told me that she has, at times, been “derailed” in her walk with the Lord...
Not very long ago, the Lord delivered her from years of alcohol addiction. And she’s been worshiping and serving Him ever since, aside from her occasional setbacks, of course.
So in a gentle way, I confessed that there are times when I’d get derailed, too. I said we need to know that being a disciple of Christ does not mean we will never stumble and fall. The encouraging news is, whenever we do mess up, Jesus will be there to pick us up. He will clean us up, as well.
I told my friend that Jesus is our Good Shepherd. He’s not some kind of religious rule enforcer. Christ loves us too much to allow His children to wallow in guilt, shame, and spiritual failure.
