I continue to give thanks to God for allowing me the opportunity to be interviewed by CBS Television...
Although I did so with much reluctance and some misgivings, I eventually consented to it because I sensed God wanted me to do it. And now I know for certain that He did. The responses from the public have confirmed it.
One of these responses was from Minerva.* My heart ached as I read her letter. Changing her name and not revealing where she lives, to protect her identity and privacy, Minerva is in her mid-fifties and divorced. She confessed to being an alcoholic, drinking every day to help ease the anguish of her soul. She had three children, and all are dead.
According to her letter, the first loss she experienced was that of her then six-year-old son, who was "shot and killed." Then came the death of her 21-year-old son, dying in the same way. While six months later, her 30-year-old daughter, who had four children of her own, was gunned down as well.
Who could blame Minerva for staying drunk? But now will be the challenge to reply to her letter and give her words of comfort, encouragement, and hope from the Scriptures. I will definitely need the guidance of the Holy Spirit for this.
