Furthering the Gospel

But I want you to know, brothers, that what has happened
to me has actually resulted in the advance of the gospel.
Philippians 1:12

Those who know me well, know that I often pass through seasons of intense emotional pain and regret over my criminal past...

I have unending sorrow because of it, and it is also hurtful to be reminded of it, even decades later.

As I knew would happen, because of the fortieth anniversary of my arrest this past August, various media outlets revisited the "Son of Sam" case. Thus, both the case and I were brought back into the public eye, and with all of it came the story of my life, both true and untrue.

Nevertheless, to help during this season of sorrow, a dear 81-year-old friend reminded me that, as with the apostle Paul, the seemingly bad things which happened to me have really served to advance my story of forgiveness and redemption. Though the past had been extensively revisited
and rehashed, my story of hope has gone out even further. Now, more people than ever know about my salvation in Christ.

With God, even "bad" publicity can be used for good in His hands. For this, I rejoice.
