He hath sent me to heal
the brokenhearted.
Luke 4:18
It's a somber day, and it should be...
the brokenhearted.
Luke 4:18
It's a somber day, and it should be...
On this day, on September 11, 2001, terrorists hijacked four jetliners, two of which were used to crash into the legendary Twin Towers in Lower Manhattan. These were both high-rise buildings that had been part of what was then known as the World Trade Center, a complex of office-type structures which have since been demolished and rebuilt into what is now the Freedom Tower.
Each year, as is my custom, I would write something about the tragedy in my journal, as I am doing now. I still vividly recall listening to my radio on that, day in 2001. I remember the initial reports of a plane hitting one of the Twin Towers, followed by a second plane slamming into the other.
The attacks left the city shaken with many lives destroyed, and many more injured. So this morning, and for several hours, I again had my radio on, this time listening to the memorial coverage. It was sobering to hear the names of each victim being said aloud. A sad bell would toll in the background at the end of each public reading of the dead.
Today, I bowed my head in silent prayer, asking the Lord to comfort the hearts of those who continue to mourn. God has promised to comfort and heal the brokenhearted. But I know that such an inner work of healing might take forever.
Amen.
