And let us not be weary in well doing: for in
due season we shall reap, if we faint not.

Galatians 6:9
Yesterday, I had to give the Sunday sermon message as our scheduled guest minister was not able to make it...
My main text was Galatians 6:9-10, while my related text was Hebrews 12:1-3. The theme: how disciples of the Lord must never allow ourselves to become weary to the point where we quit our respective ministries and abandon our callings. I know from personal experience and observation that, unfortunately, there are those who at some point make the decision to walk away from Jesus. How we as Christians need to always keep our spiritual eyes on the Lord, and develop within us great patience so as to continue to run the race the Bible refers to.
I spoke about Satan, our adversary, who'd love nothing better than to see a Christian turn his back on our Savior, and return to the world. How as sheep who've wandered from the fold, hungry wolves will quickly devour us.
But the good news, I told the men, is that we who are in Christ have already overcome the devil. How even now, we as believers in the Lord, have already been given the power and authority from God himself over all Satan's demons. That even an army of one million demons is no match for a child of God who's filled with the Holy Spirit, and who knows the Word of God.
And in addition to being stronger than the powers of darkness, we have the indwelling presence of God's Spirit whose task is, in part, to empower the believer from within. That the Holy Spirit will provide us with the grace to keep going forward, even when we think we have little to no strength left.
I also said that if there is anyone who has already quit serving the Lord and has stepped away from running the race, he can make a fresh start. From this moment, he could confess his sins and failings to the Lord, and ask Jesus to restore him. I said, "The Lord would be more than happy to do this, even from this very moment. " I added that He has done this for me, many times.
I stressed that our Lord is full of mercy and compassion, and would indeed allow anyone to rejoin the battle and resume the race that has been set before us. The Lord didn't save us and redeem us from our sins with His precious blood, only to have us quit on Him.
As my sermon came to a close, it was encouraging to see a number of men making their way to the altar to make things right between them and their Savior. It was deeply humbling to see my brothers, with their heads bowed, seeking help and forgiveness from the Lord via prayers of repentance. It was a blessed day!
