I've been through some fierce trials this year...
But it is during these times and seasons of difficulty that we're better able to realize what a good shepherd the Lord Jesus really is. I know of course that He is the Good Shepherd, because the Bible tells me so. And I believe what the Bible says.
However, when I am going through a time of great stress so that I am "hard-pressed" on every side (living in a pressure cooker, one might say), this is when I can fully experience Christ's power to sustain me. And this is why, I believe, a man like King David was able to declare the Lord to be his rock, a high tower and a place of refuge, deliverer, as well as his strong arm and source of strength.
King David actually experienced for himself these aspects of the Lord, plus so much more. Thus, David was able to write his psalms, not with mere head knowledge, but with genuine heart knowledge. He experienced God's grace firsthand, and so have I. Therefore, I am able to echo King David's words because I too have been a partaker of the same.
Yes, Jesus Christ is the Good Shepherd, for He has been good to me. He has protected me, strengthened and guided me through many storms, tests and trials of my faith. And He will do this for all His children. Amen!
