If we confess our sins, God is faithful and just to forgive
our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrightousness.

1 John 1:9
I had to cover tonight's Bible study class...
The message which I believe the Lord had me to share was, "Get back up!" I told the men, "When you think you failed God by committing one or more sins, you can repent and confess your transgressions to Him, and He will forgive you."
We looked at various Scriptures, the key one being from the apostle John's first letter, which I quoted above. This verse, along with others, were written to help us understand that as men who have placed our faith in the Lord Jesus and on His finished work on the cross, God has already forgiven all our sins. All we have to do is desire to turn from sin, confess it to Him, and He will forgive and cleanse us.
I told my spiritual brothers that "We only fail God and ourselves when we fall and don't get back up." Jesus knows we are flesh and that we are so easily tempted and prone to sin. I said, "Jesus never excuses our sins. In fact, He hates them. Yet He loves us and longs to forgive and restore us."
We spoke about Messiah Jesus being the Good Shepherd and what this means to us as believers. As such, He watches over us, protects us, nurtures us, disciplines us when needed, and tends to us when we are sick. "We are never to run from Him, but to Him," I stated.
"Unfortunately, when we sin, and this includes me, we feel ashamed, and we try to hide from our Savior. But we need to do the opposite," I told them. We need to allow God to pick us up and clean us up. The biggest mistake we make when we fall into sin is to stay down and defeated. In the name of Jesus, I declared, "confess your sins to the Lord and get back up!"
