daytime, and in the night His song shall be with me...
Psalm 42:8
This afternoon, I was able to go outdoors for our usual three-hour recreation period. It was cool, but sunny…
The trees, as they do every autumn, were showing off their colors. It was the perfect day for a walk.
So I did just that. I walked at a brisk pace for seventy minutes. I felt so energized that I could've walked longer. But I wanted to spend some time gazing at Miss Goldie. And let me tell you, she knows how to get a tree lover's attention. Her shiny yellow leaves are a showpiece for all to take notice of.
While right behind her stood the deft and skillful Mister Orange. He has managed to outgrow Miss Goldie in height, as well as wrap some of his branches around her in a demonstration of protective care, and as a display of warmhearted tenderness.
After a time of quietly observing Miss Goldie and Mister Orange, and spying on their obvious romantic relationship, I continued my walk. But within a few minutes I stopped again, this time to talk with a friend who lives in a different cell block than mine. We spent the remainder of our recreation period sitting in the yard in deep conversation.
All this made for a perfect day.
