For Thy mercy is great above the heavens:
and His truth reaches unto the clouds.

He loves humankind. He delights to show mercy. He is especially favorable to the poor and oppressed. To the outcasts of society, be they prostitutes or thieves. And to orphans and widows as well, who were and still are oftentimes ignored and ostracized in many cultures.
Jesus, as the Bible reveals, was not afraid to get His hands dirty. He fearlessly touched contagious lepers, and even the dead, which according to Jewish beliefs, would have made Him unclean. He also sat with sinners, much to the dismay of the religious rulers of His day. He comforted the hurting, and those who'd been battered by life's cruel blows. There was no end to the crowds who came to Him for help.
The church, I believe, needs to be of the same mindset. We need to live as Christ did, always available to assist someone, including those who've been taken over by sin, and yet remain enslaved to it.
After all, the Lord came to seek and to save the lost, (Luke 19:10). And we, who are now in Christ, were once just as lost in our sins. He gave us mercy. So let us do the same. Let's not be afraid to get our hands dirty.
