As far as the east is from the west,
so far hath He removed our
transgressions from us.

so far hath He removed our
transgressions from us.
Psalm 103:12
Today, Jews everywhere observe and celebrate the sacred Day of Atonement, which is also known as Yom Kippur...
Centuries ago, when the actual Temple was in existence in Jerusalem, the High Priest would once per year on Yom Kippur, approach what was the Mercy Seat. He would enter behind the veil which hid the Mercy Seat from view, and also from the people. And he would then offer a sacrifice for his sins, and another sacrifice for the sins of the people, thus bringing forgiveness from God. |
The once per year approach of the Mercy Seat was a major spiritual event for everyone. It was also mandated in the Scriptures. However, thanks to Messiah Jesus and the sacrifice of Himself on the cross of Calvary as payment for our sins, there is no longer a need for someone to take on the role of High Priest and offer sacrifices. Jesus has done it all, forever.
What a blessing to know that the Mercy Seat in heaven can be approached by anyone, every day of the year, and at any time of the day or night. Yes, God's throne of grace welcomes all to approach Him.
