And it shall come to pass that I will pour out my spirit upon all
flesh; and your sons and daughters shall prophesy, and your old
men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions...

I do not mean the common dreams we sometimes experience when we're asleep. This is not the kind of dream I am referring to. Rather, it's an inner dream that is deeply spiritual in nature. It's something which lives inside the heart. It's a dream with endless and boundless possibilities, and it's a dream one must carefully guard and never allow it to die, because if it does, that person's spirit dies with it.
The Bible seems to attest to this in the book of Proverbs. "Where there is no vision, the people perish" (Proverbs 29:17). While the Merriam-Webster dictionary defines dream as "a strongly desired goal or purpose." The word dream, the dictionary also states, is synonymous with the word "vision." Thus, dream and vision are alike.
The late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., I'm certain, had this kind of inner dream as noted in his classic "I have a Dream” speech. It's a lifetime call that will not go away, unless one gives it away, or allows it to be stolen.
Yes, it can happen if we're careless. This is because, as Jesus himself warned in the Scriptures, that the Devil has come to "steal, kill, and destroy" (John 10:10). Therefore, for the redeemed child of God, the dream God birthed inside us, can be lost.
Since Father God birthed His dream for our lives inside each of us, because every one of us has a purpose, Satan has therefore made it his business to steal it. He knows that a person filled with the Holy Spirit and a burning passion to fulfill his or her God-anointed dream and calling, is a serious threat to his kingdom. Such a man or woman can cause the devil untold grief. Thus, the dream becomes his target.
For myself, I have to be ever so careful to guard the dream by staying close to Christ by spending time in his Word, and in prayer. I cannot allow it to slip away. It's something which the Lord has planned for me even before I was born. It was, however, lying dormant for many years. I wasn't even aware of its existence until I repented of my sins and gave my life to Messiah Jesus. That's when the dream came alive, and it has been driving me ever since.
In closing, while the Lord has placed His dream inside my heart, I must be careful never to carelessly lose it and thereby forfeit it to Satan. This could happen to any of us if we choose to give ourselves over to practicing sin in our lives, without repentance (1 John 1:9). In doing this, we give the devil the legal authority to take possession of the dream and destroy it. May it never be!
