I always have to be ever so careful not to allow my heart to become cold towards God, or towards my neighbors...
Living in this world, be it in a correctional setting or on the outside, I think it is easy for one’s heart to gradually harden. This is, in part, because we live in a fallen world that’s filled with lawlessness and tragedy.
Yes, in all candidness, there are times when I could sense a hardening from within, and I don’t like it one bit. So whenever this happens I make an effort to get alone with the Lord, and I will refocus on His goodness and mercy, rather than on the evil, distress, and trouble that surrounds me.
The reality is that there are negative forces in the world that are powerful, and if a child of God is not careful, his heart can become cold. Therefore, the cry from the depths of my soul is, “Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me” (Psalm 51:10).
