And God saw that the wickedness of man was
great in the earth, and that the imagination of the
thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
Genesis 6:5
There is no place on earth, not even inside a church, where people can be one hundred percent safe from evil and violence...

So seeing and hearing reports via the media of a horrific shooting inside a small church in rural Texas, while shocking, was not a surprise. Churches and the followers of Jesus Christ have long been targets of persecution. In places such as Pakistan, Sudan, and Egypt, churches have been burned down or bombed, many times with worshipers still inside. This time, however, the murder and mayhem hit close to home.
Earlier this month, on a sunny Sunday, a gunman bent on revenge walked into a church with a gun and began shooting. By the time the smoke from his gun lifted, twenty-six people were dead. They ranged from ages five to seventy-two. President Trump, speaking later that day, called the shooting an "Act of evil." But we didn't need the President to tell us this. We all know evil when we see it.
Like many people, I said prayers for the families who lost loved ones. Even the church's pastor lost his teenage daughter. Senseless!
However, I wanted to do more than just say prayers. So I obtained the mailing address of the church and sent the pastor and his congregation two cards of comfort, writing words of love and hope in each, and off they went into the mail.
