As with many correctional facilities, the one I'm confined to is, in my opinion, a place where the Devil has a big foothold...
But this is not meant to be a reflection on the facility itself. Most prisons are strongholds for bad behavior. But in spite of this, God is at work. He's changing lives, one at a time. Such a spiritual work is for the most part unseen by society, which is sad.
Obviously, I'd like to see more men at Shawangunk repenting of their sins and placing their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. I've been praying for this to happen, and so have the men in my fellowship.
But with all the sin that surrounds me, I sometimes feel as if I'm just a small candle in a very dark place. As a disciple of Christ, I want to shine as a beacon of hope before my peers. Yet, I myself, am as a candle flickering in the wind, struggling to stay lit.
