The Lord also will be a refuge for the
oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble.

oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble.
Psalm 9:9
Over the weekend, I answered a letter from someone who asked about...
...my work with those who are emotionally troubled and have various psychiatric and mental health issues. I told him that my opportunities, especially when I was at my previous facility, were very rewarding. I had the chance to make friends with those who, unfortunately, are often treated as outcasts by their fellow prisoners.
Christ has taught me to have compassion for people, especially for those who are hurting, and who are for a variety of reasons unable to function well in their present surroundings. Doing time in prison is difficult. Even those who do not have mental health problems need lots of encouragement to keep going and not give up. I need encouragement, too.
This is one reason I am thankful to have God's word with me, not only to read, but to keep His word in my heart.
