There's a saying that "God works in mysterious ways"…
I've heard this expression ever since I was a child, and I hear it often said today. Actually, it's not that God does things in mysterious ways, as there are no mysteries with Him. The fact is, sometimes we simply don't understand what God is doing, and why He is going about it in a certain way.
Well today was one of those days when two good things happened which I would say were mysterious. In one incident, a man of the Islamic faith came to the front of my cell and asked, "Hey, Dave, please do me a favor." I thought he was going to ask for a few spoons of instant coffee or maybe a postage stamp, so he could mail a letter. Instead, he asked me to pray for him.
His request took me by surprise. So when I asked him what I should pray for, with a pleading look on his face, he replied, "God knows my situation." He then quickly stepped away as he was in a rush to report to his work assignment.
While the second incident came about an hour later. Another Muslim man asked me if I was familiar with the "Proverbs section of the Bible." I told him I was. He then asked if I could explain the proverbs to him. "Which one?" I asked. He said, "All of them."
When I asked if he had a Bible. He said he did not. So I promised to get him one, the next time I go to the chapel. We have donated Bibles from the Gideons International to hand out as needed. Therefore, I will get one to him when I can.
How strange. Two Muslims, both whom I have known for quite some time and have had friendly discussions with on occasion about day-to-day events, showed up at my cell bars. One of them asked for prayer about an unspecified need, the other for a Bible. I guess I will have to file today's happenings under "Mysterious." But for God, it is all a part of his plan.
