As I write this journal entry on a Saturday afternoon…
...the men who work in the prison's industrial shop are busy as usual. Bottles of hand sanitizer are being produced by the thousands. As I wrote on April 30th, the work crew produces over thirty thousand bottles of sanitizer per day. On April 30th they officially filled and labeled their one millionth bottle.
Society is in the dark about our industrial shop, which is one of three in operation in New York State. The other two are located at Great Meadows Correctional Facility in the town of Comstock, and at the Albion Correctional Facility in the town of Albion, New York, which is a facility for women.
Each facility makes the same product, but all three prisons are independent of one another. While Corcraft Industries, which is part of New York's State's Department of Correctional Services, handles the distribution of the sanitizer state-wide, distributing it where needed.
From what I've been told by a number of workers at the industrial shop here at Shawangunk, we have the most productive shop of the three. It was the work crew here who produced one million bottles as of April 30th.
Who knows how many citizens in New York State are Coronavirus free because of the work of the men and women in New York's prisons, who labor up to twelve hours per day, six days a week to do their part to produce a product that is presently in short supply.
May God bless them.
