Yesterday's mail brought a letter from someone who befriended my father when he was living in Florida...
She spent time with him in his later years, helping my Dad with his grocery shopping and various errands. She would also keep him company when she could, my Dad even allowing her to read to him from the Bible. Writing back immediately, as it has been about five years since our last correspondence, I wrote in part:
"Getting your letter brought back wonderful memories of the times
you visited with my father to keep him company. As I mentioned in my
last letter to you shortly before his passing, I remain deeply grateful
for all you have done for him. Hard to believe that my Dad's been gone
for five years.
I remember the day I got the news of his passing as if it was only a few
weeks ago. I know he loved you and considered you a dear friend. He
was a lonely man after his wife Julia died. My Dad also had great pain over
my situation. I have much regret. My coming to prison broke his heart.
My greatest hope, as you surely know, is that he accepted Jesus as his
Messiah and Savior before he left this earth. I'm crying now as I write this...
Thank you!"
