Today, I got an unexpected surprise...
A man, whom I only know by an occasional hello, asked if I was going to the recreation yard this evening. He asked if he and I could speak in private. It was an unusual request, being that I don't know him well. So I spent the remainder of the day wondering what this could be about.
He's a man in his early thirties who hangs out with a rough group of guys. But later we did meet. We walked to the yard's far corner so as to have as much privacy as possible. Then, after asking what he wanted to speak to me about, in just above a whisper he told me that his elderly grandmother, whom he said raised him, had a bad heart condition. That she was going to be facing major heart surgery in a few days. He was worried he might lose her, and asked if I could say a prayer for her. I gladly obliged.
It was a short and simple prayer which lasted only a couple of minutes, but he was very thankful. Then, after a quick handshake, he abruptly turned from me and walked away to catch up with his friends. Still, I was touched and humbled that a man whom I hardly knew would ask me to do this. God is amazing!
