This is the day which the Lord has made;
we will rejoice and be glad in it.
Psalm 118:24
This morning, the sun was brightly shining while a gentle breeze blew across the prison's outdoor recreation yard...
we will rejoice and be glad in it.
Psalm 118:24
This morning, the sun was brightly shining while a gentle breeze blew across the prison's outdoor recreation yard...
It was truly a gorgeous day. But the best part was that I got to spend quality time with another Christian, whom, prior to today, I did not know very well.
Moe (not his real name) has been in prison for 23 years. Like me, he's a "Lifer." And Moe has been in a lot of prisons, too, because of the many fights he'd gotten himself into with other inmates.
Having a long history of being hot-tempered and belligerent, Moe said things began to slowly change for him after he gave his life to Christ just several years ago while he was at a different facility. He told me he's doing much better now with his temper, but that he still struggles with it.
I then told Moe that we can only live the Christian life by allowing the Lord Jesus to live in us and through us. That Christ on the inside makes all the difference, and it is not by our meager human efforts at self-betterment that we could become more like the Lord himself.
Moe acknowledged that what I was telling him was true, as he does attend our church's Bible studies and services. Therefore, he knows what the Scriptures teach us. I was thankful for the chance to spend time with Moe and to get to know him better as we walked the yard on such a gorgeous day.
