Behold, how good and how pleasant it is
for brethren to dwell together in unity.
Psalm 133:1
I don't know why it was labeled a "Retreat"...

I suppose it is because there's no accurate name for it. But today, in the prison's chapel, we had a special gathering which consisted of approximately 40 men from our church, along with fifteen lay ministers, also known as "civilian volunteers."
It was not a lavish event, however. Rather, it was a simple gathering of evangelical Christians who wanted to spend time together in worship, and in giving thanks to God.
The event went from 12:45 to 8 P.M. My chaplain was present to oversee everything as both the inmates and our guests prayed, sang and socialized together without restrictions.
In addition, throughout the course of our fellowship time, a handful of prisoners had prepared in advance short sermon-like messages which they were able to present from the pulpit. This was also something of a training exercise for them, too.
My part in the retreat was brief. I opened the service by leading everyone in a congregational prayer. Later, I helped serve the supper meal, which is something I always love doing. I also took my turn with two other men overseeing our sixty cup coffee pot. It turned out to be a busy spot because almost everyone wanted fresh coffee or tea. It was a joy-filled day.
