Esther 4:14
Many of my friends know that Queen Esther is one of my favorite biblical characters...
Her story is one of faith and triumph over an evil that was about to come upon her people and sweep them all away, in what would have been a holocaust. A demonic purge was only days away. But God himself allowed Queen Esther to come into her position for such a time as this.
Esther, a young and exceedingly beautiful Jewish woman, caught the eye of King Ahasuerus, the then King of Persia, who made Esther his Queen. And through divine Providence, just as a plot was forming to annihilate the Jewish race, Queen Esther was able to thwart those plans and save her people.
Traditionally, every year around this time, when those of my heritage celebrate the holiday known as Purim, which commemorates our deliverance from what would have been total destruction, I like to reread the book of Esther in the Old Testament.
Esther's story is a reminder that my God never sleeps. Like a good shepherd, He watches day and night for predators. Always alert and protective, the Lord keeps a vigilant eye over His sheep. No wolf, or lion, or demon can bring harm to His flock when He's around. And God is always around. He's an "ever present help in times of trouble" (Psalm 46:1).
From Esther's story comes the lesson that my heavenly Father cares about me. He is always present, even when at times He seems far away, He's not.
