They know when it's time to get up from their long winter's sleep...
As the temperature warms, even though many days remain quite chilly, the warm rays of the Sun dictates the arrival of a new season. And while spring is officially several weeks away, it won't be too much longer before Miss Goldie and Mister Orange hear the words that are written deep into their DNA, "Arise and shine, dear ones, spring has arrived."
Therefore, with a new season soon to come, they're slowly beginning to stir. And it is a slow process indeed, as one would expect from trees. After all, I cannot imagine how hard it must be to awaken from having slept soundly for three to four months. As a human, I would sometimes have trouble getting out of bed after a single night's sleep. How much more challenging it would be to awaken after having slept several months?
Looking affectionately at my tree friends, I am now seeing the first tiny signs of life. Whereas only a few weeks ago, they looked lifeless and barren. There's hope indeed! Spring will come, and with it will come, my friends.
