That terrible day of the Lord is near.
Swiftly it comes - a day of bitter tears,
a day when even strong men will cry out.

Zephaniah 1:14 NLT
War has been a part of mankind since the start of human history...
From the time when Cain slew his brother Abel, the blood of the victims of violence has cried from the ground. Even the Lord Jesus attested to this when He prophesied that there will be wars and rumors of war, which will go on until the "end of the age."
When we think of war, we usually picture it as happening in lesser developed countries such as Afghanistan, or in other areas of the Middle East, or in a jungle. It is much harder, however, in this day and age, to see missiles being fired into residential areas of modern cities blowing up buildings and killing civilians. We do not expect to see tanks rolling down the streets of our towns or fighter jets firing rockets at us. Yet it's happening even as I write this from my prison cell.
War! We cannot escape thinking about it. Some are unfortunately living in it. It's enough to keep the media busy and people on edge. It even affects nations like the United States who, while not directly participating in the present conflict between Russia and Ukraine, is experiencing increased prices for oil and gasoline, as well as food. War affects the entire planet.
Interestingly, the Bible also talks about a final war so intense and all-encompassing that it will cause the Lord himself to return to Earth and put a stop to it before the entire planet is destroyed. It is known as the battle of Armageddon. This will be when all the world's armies will mobilize and head towards Israel and the Middle East in what will be the final conflict between Israel and the nations, and God.
Yet, it will not be the end of the world. Messiah Jesus will make sure of that. Instead, He will return to usher in a new era of peace where, according to the Scriptures, "He shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords (weapons) into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks (farming tools): nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn of war anymore" (Isaiah 2:4).
