And His name shall be called...
The Prince of Peace.
Isaiah 9:6
As I watch the news coverage of yet another war…
The Prince of Peace.
Isaiah 9:6
As I watch the news coverage of yet another war…
...this time in the European nation known as Ukraine, and as it quickly escalates, I cannot help but ask myself if war will ever end? Whether it's being fought in a tropical jungle or on the concrete streets of a modern city, it always leaves behind a trail of destruction. Will there ever be real lasting peace?
But even as I ask this, I already know the answer. Yes, one day, war as we know it will cease. Of this I am absolutely certain. Why? Because the holy Bible declares it to be so.
Human history is replete with stories of wars. Big ones and small, the tales and sagas of death and destruction from combat are endless. In Ukraine, for example, I see endless rows of abandoned and burned-out buildings. I see fear on the faces of women and children and the elderly as they flee for their lives.
Sadly, war will not be going away anytime soon. In fact, the most destructive wars humanity will experience are yet ahead. But even though this will be the case, God has promised to those who love Him that He is preparing a new heaven and a new earth where His children will dwell in peace forever.
Evil has an end. Satan has an end. Sin and corruption also have an end. The devil knows this, and it scares him. His days are numbered. His doom has already been declared. But for now, sin, like a cancer, must run its course.
This is the Messianic promise. It is the final triumph over Satan's rulership of the kingdoms of this world, and over the control of fallen men. Jesus, as King of Kings and Lord of Lords, and as the Prince of Peace, will come again. As Christ himself has so forthrightly announced, "Surely I come quickly" (Revelation 22:20).
