Pilate said to the crowd, What shall I do then with Jesus which
is called Christ? They all said unto him, Let him be crucified. And
the governor said, Why, what evil has he done? But they cried
out all the more, saying, Let him be crucified!

Matthew 27:22-23
During this season known as Passover, I am pondering the sacrifice the Lord Jesus willingly made of himself for the sins of humankind...
As I wrote in my previous entry, Jesus (Yeshua in Hebrew), was the prophesied Passover Lamb who came to make payment for our sins. As a prophet and preacher of righteousness, John the Baptist, when he saw Jesus coming towards him in the Jordan region, declared, "Behold the Lamb of God, which takes away the sin of the world" (John 1:29).
I think about all Jesus' acts of mercy and compassion. The healings He performed on even the most seemingly hopeless of cases, and the comfort He gave to the brokenhearted and those who were in mourning. In the end, the ones Jesus loved and did miracles for wanted him dead.
"Away with Him," they shouted. But didn't He cast out demons from among you? "Kill Him!" demanded the crowd. But didn't He give sight to the blind and hearing to the deaf? "Let Him die!" they roared. But didn't He teach about forgiving those who did you wrong? "We want Him dead!" they insisted. But what about His teachings on loving your neighbor? "Crucify Him! He is not fit to live!"
Jesus, is my Messiah and Lord. He rescued me from deep spiritual darkness, pulling me away from the devil's grasp. He healed my tormented mind as well. My Savior and my King, He paid the ultimate price for my wicked crimes and sins with His own blood that He willingly shed on a cross in Jerusalem. What love!
This is what Passover means to me. Not only is it a time for celebrating the deliverance of my people the Jews from slavery and bondage, but also for my deliverance from slavery and sin.
