We have begun a substantial lockdown at the prison...
It's not a total one, however. It's a semi-lockdown. Chapel services, all school and vocational classes, and a number of other classes and activities such as Alcoholics Anonymous, sporting events, and the facility's library, have been cancelled indefinitely.
For the men, including myself, there is a sense of uncertainty. We don't know if the level of the lockdown is going to intensify, and we will be confined to our cells for days or weeks, and If we will lose contact with our loved ones maybe for weeks, or months. So, everyone is under a lot of stress. Not even the correctional staff knows how this is going to go.
In addition, the men are concerned about the health and well-being of their friends and family on the outside. Reports on the impact and potential the Coronavirus could have, has them worried. This is especially true for those who have family in New York City, on Long Island, and in the Westchester County and Albany areas where a majority of these men come from, and where their families reside.
I have the same concerns, as I have friends who live in these areas too. But my faith in the Lord is strong. My prayers go right to God's "throne of grace." He invites His children to come to Him that we may find "mercy and grace" to help us in our times of need (Hebrews 4:14-16),
While the situation is uncertain and tense, I have chosen to rest in the Lord's peace.
