We've been hearing rumors and rumblings about a dreaded "lockdown"…
The Coronavirus has been in the news constantly. I'm not frightened of it in the least. But in the interest of precaution, we've been hearing about a possible lockdown.
Well this evening we got the first taste that such a drastic measure is coming. At six o'clock our cells opened in order to release those of us who either had an educational program, a night shift work assignment, or were going to the gym for recreation.
I was headed for my Sociology class. I had a homework assignment to hand in, as well. However, almost immediately, a correction officer came behind us and ordered everyone to return to his respective housing unit. He said that all educational classes were cancelled. So back we went to our cell blocks. The professor? He obviously returned to his car and went home earlier than planned.
Thankfully, when we returned to our cell blocks, the officer on duty allowed everyone to hang out inside the building. So this was not an all-out lockdown. But we could all read the proverbial "Writing on the wall." A lockdown is fast approaching.
For now, it's just a matter of waiting and hoping. A general lockdown will mean longer confinement time, limited movement, extra restrictions, and having men caged for long hours. For some it will mean boredom and even depression.
I'm anxious to see what tomorrow will bring.
