Proverbs 30:24-28
Since my journal entries for January were posted, I have received a surprising number of interesting comments on my entry for January 21st, “The Sparrow”...
As the story goes, while I was outdoors on a night with subzero temperatures and a blinding snowstorm, I spotted a little sparrow struggling against the wind. I watched as it eventually managed to land on a steel bar which is part of the security grating for one of the building’s windows. It was obviously hanging on for dear life.
It was a tale of survival. An ordinary sparrow pitted against harsh elements, refusing to let go. As I continued to watch the drama that was taking place before my eyes, that tiny bird became a champion of perseverance. Who says that other creatures cannot teach us humans about things such as perseverance, determination, and endurance?
God, I believe, allowed a common sparrow to teach me about faith, as well. The wise bird knew the storm would eventually come to an end. Knowing this, he therefore had the faith to hang on. I need to hang on to my faith, too.
