Luke 24:32
It was after Christ's crucifixion and resurrection when, at this point, many of the Lord's followers were still unaware that Jesus had actually arose from the dead...
When two of them, as they walked together on a road called Emmaus, were encountered by one whom they thought was a fellow traveler. But unbeknownst to them, it was the resurrected Lord.
As far as they knew, their hoped-for Messiah remained buried in a tomb. They were no doubt heartbroken with sorrow etched on their faces, when unexpectedly, Jesus revealed Himself. After explaining the Scriptures about his resurrection and "breaking bread" with them, the Lord instantly vanished from their sight, leaving the men astonished at what had just happened.
But now their spiritual eyes were opened. The two disciples, who moments before were sad and sorrowful, were now filled with joy. And at this point they understood that what the Lord promised had come to pass. Amazed and excited, they happily went on their way to tell the other disciples the good news. "Messiah Jesus is alive!" (See Road to Emmaus cartoon video for kids.)
But this got me thinking about how long has God been blessing our nation, and yet we are unaware of it? How long, I thought to myself, has God been watching over the United States, and we don't even know it?

Perhaps this is why things seem to be getting harder for many of America's citizens? Our economy is unstable. Social and political unrest and senseless and exceedingly deadly violence seems to be happening more and more, where even children attending grade school aren't safe (see what the Bible says about this).
My thought is that maybe it is time for people to put aside their differences and seek the Lord before things get worse. Like those two disciples in Christ's day, they were unaware that the Lord was right in their midst. But maybe we too are unaware that the Almighty is standing alongside us just waiting for our leaders and individuals throughout the country to call upon the Lord for help, and to "seek His face."
Those two disciples were going down the road, not knowing the Lord was with them. Does America know that God is with us? Our future may depend on knowing the Lord and calling upon Him to help guide our nation along.
As the Old Testament prophet Isaiah declared, "Seek the Lord while He may be found, call upon Him while He is near" (Isaiah 55:6). Will the day come when He will no longer be near? God forbid!
