Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. Behold,
I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; Shall ye not know it?
I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.

Prisoners, I know from personal experience, often spend too much time looking back. But to do this means losing sight of the future, or even forgetting that you have one.
But as I now enter into another year of life, I am once again reminded to keep my eyes toward the future, and on my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He has granted me more time to serve Him, and for this I am deeply grateful.
Although physically confined, God has used my life for a good purpose. I see the reality of this every day. My faith in Him, even after more than forty years behind bars, has brought encouragement to those who felt like giving up.
As for the bad parts of my past, for which I will always regret, there is no way to go back in time to fix things. So, I have put my past failures into God's hands. In the meantime, with His help, I continue to share my story of redemption, and hopefully touch many lives in the process.
I thank my Lord that I have not fallen into a state of soul-destroying and mind-numbing despair and depression. My strength and hope are in the Lord, who daily fills my heart with His peace and joy.
To dwell with regret on the past is to die. But to look upon the Lord is life, and life abundantly (John 10:10).
