And now I beseech thee, lady, not as though I wrote
a new commandment unto thee, but that which we
had from the beginning, that we love one another.

One may think of it as an incongruity...

...men in prison, some of them doing life sentences for murder, talking about the importance of loving our neighbors.
This was today’s topic in our Bible study in the chapel. It was also a confirmation because of what I wrote in my journal for June 27th.
Today, the teacher had us look at God’s love for humanity. How He doesn’t see those who are locked up for committing a crime differently than He views the rest of humanity. Society, of course, doesn’t have the same view. But that’s just the way it is.
And we also looked at many Scriptures which show the necessity of genuinely caring for our neighbors. This includes loving our fellow inmates as well as showing respect to the staff.
With honest introspection, I wish I learned how to love God along with my neighbors when I was on the outside. I wouldn’t be in prison today.
