Whenever I'm in the prison's recreation yard, it's not uncommon to see planes of all kinds in flight...
The facility is located in an area that has lots of air traffic. Several major airports, along with a few smaller ones, are nearby. Kennedy and LaGuardia airports in New York City, and Newark in New Jersey are the larger ones, while smaller but also busy airports are in places like Albany, Newburgh, and White Plains. Not to mention a host of private airfields in this part of the state.
There are several reasons, I think, that planes flying high in the sky will mesmerize me. Whenever I'll spot one, I'd usually stop what I'm doing and follow the craft with my eyes as it traverses the open sky, and until it disappears from view.
I love the sense of mystery, in that, I don't know where a particular airliner is going, or who's on board. I would wonder, as well, if any of its passengers are looking down and notice the prison, and wonder to themselves who lives inside it. I doubt the latter, however. They're too high to see this place or even recognize what it is. But I do think about it.
Do any of them know there's a prisoner watching their plane and dreaming of freedom? People from all walks of life en route to destinations unknown.
