I have been at Shawangunk Correctional Facility for just under two months...
I am slowly adjusting to this place, although I know it will never be the same for me as it was at Sullivan. But this is where the Lord has me and I want to make the best of it.
Tonight we had a small gathering in the chapel. Eight of us joined together for a time of prayer. As with many churches, prayer meetings usually have low attendance. Nevertheless, here we were. It was a time, I believe, that was spiritually edifying and purposeful. I enjoyed the ninety minutes with the Lord, and
with my brothers, men I am just beginning to know.
We sang several traditional gospel hymns, too. I was pleased to learn the fellowship at Shawangunk often sings such classical works like THE OLD RUGGED CROSS, SHALL WE GATHER AT THE RIVER and "JUST AS I AM." A rarity for sure in an age of modern songs with fast beats.
I'm already looking forward to our next meeting.
