We had a nice time of fellowship together and enjoyed a simple meal from the vending machines that are in the prison's visiting room. Pastor Tom and his lovely wife oversee a church in the city of Port Jervis, New York.
Port Jervis is predominantly a working class community that sits on the border with Pennsylvania, and according to a number of articles that I've read recently, Port Jervis has a big problem with drugs, especially heroin. Like many smaller cities and towns, problems such as gangs and the sale of narcotics is usually a part of life in larger localities such as New York City, Albany and Buffalo. Nowadays, however, lesser known
places have also been plagued with such troublesome issues along with the loss of lives and increases in crime.
My prayer, therefore, is for my fellow Christians who live in communities like Port Jervis, to take the life-transforming gospel of Jesus Christ into the streets in the hope of reaching those who are bound by sin and all kinds of addictions. After all, Jesus came to set captives free. But how can they know about this wonderful salvation unless we tell them?
