I am now back to working full-time at the facility's 64 man "Intermediate care Program" known simply as E-North...
The cell block consists of inmates designated as "Special Needs." I've had the privilege of working with these men for many years now, and I think of my job as a gift from God.
Although I live in the prison's general population, five days per week, mornings and afternoons, I will leave my living area and head across facility grounds to where E-North is located. No inmates from the general population are permitted to enter E-North, with the exception of myself and two other workers.
I'm thankful for the opportunity to help the men who live in E-North in any way that I can. Sometimes I'll be asked to help a man write a letter home. Many times I'll be a friend and a listening ear to a prisoner who's lonely and depressed, and on occasion, I'll have opportunities to share my faith in God as several of the men also belong to the chapel's fellowship group.
I am also thankful that the prison's administration as well as the staff at the Intermediate Care program, trust me. They've allowed me to spend my days dealing with individuals who have deep-seated mental health issues, and more. I think of it as my personal ministry of compassion.
