This morning, I was talking to my friend, Jim (not his real name), how my own father reminded me of my heavenly Father...
I told Jim about the many times I hurt my dad and rebelled against him, which I am exceedingly sorry for. Yet, my dad always forgave me and never stopped loving me. As bad as I sometimes behaved, I remained his son.
I said to Jim, "Frankly, I've known other guys whose dads disowned them for committing crimes, thereby bringing shame and reproach upon their respective families." And from the human standpoint, I suppose I could not blame them for eventually turning their backs on their own
sons. After all, "Enough is enough!"
But God isn't like that, I explained. Because even though punishment may be called for, the Lord never stops loving His children, hoping the best for them. I said to Jim, "This is how my dad was." As much as I tried, I couldn't get him to reject me. God is the same way.
Fortunately, I've been blessed with two loving fathers. A father on earth (now deceased), and a Father in heaven, who is very much alive.
