Several days ago, I received a letter from a couple whom I have been corresponding with for many years...
The husband, Bob, has Stage 4 cancer and has been undergoing chemotherapy on an outpatient basis for a while now. However, a few weeks ago he became ill and was admitted to the hospital, where he remains at present.
Bob's wife Brenda asked me to pray for him, and for her as well. I replied that I will indeed pray. But I also told Brenda to read and ponder Psalm 121 where the psalmist reminds both himself and the reader to look to the Lord for our help.
In replying to my previous letter, Brenda wrote, "Your encouragement to read Psalm 121 is so timely, and a wonderful reminder to look to God for all I need." And she went on to say, "I am very anxious over the situation with Bob. David, you're right. I need to trust God implicitly. He is my helper, keeper, and protector."
In my response, which I wrote earlier today, I again reminded my friends that God requires no sleep. He keeps a close eye on us. As the Lord Jesus so tenderly declared in the Scriptures, "I am the good Shepherd; the good Shepherd gives his life for the sheep" (John 10:11).
I ended my letter to Brenda and Bob asking them to read Psalm 29:11 which is also one of my favorites. "The Lord will give strength unto His people; the Lord will bless His people with peace."

Note: Brenda and Bob are not their real names.
