Behold, I will do a new thing;
now it shall spring forth.

My journal entry for July 4th turned out to be prophetic...
As promised, the Lord has made a river in the wilderness for my church. Our new chaplain has arrived. We have been waiting for one since our previous chaplain retired in early December. So today was his first day in the pulpit. It was also our first opportunity to meet him, and to hear him preach.
Now that I have met him, I can say with joy and gratitude that God has provided us with a kindhearted and humble soul. He is in his seventies, which now makes me the second-oldest member of the congregation; I'm only sixty-nine! And yes, I am happy that I am no longer going to be thought of as its "oldest "member.
After meeting the new chaplain, I can discern that he has a good grasp of the Scriptures and is skillful in the use of them. As for his preaching, I would describe him as an explosive ball of Holy Spirit energy. He preaches with deep conviction and passion, and he speaks the truth in humility and love.
This is a seasoned minister who takes his calling seriously. I believe he will be a good fit for our congregation. He is going to help the church at Shawangunk grow, not only in numbers, but also in the grace and knowledge of the Lord. God, I am certain, is going to use this man to help us become more like Jesus in character, behavior, and grace. And this will be beautiful.
