He brought me to the banqueting house,
and His banner over me was love.
Song of Solomon 2:2
I'm in the middle of a heatwave...
and His banner over me was love.
Song of Solomon 2:2
I'm in the middle of a heatwave...
The high temperatures and oppressive humidity has slowed me down. It's been much too hot to write. I've even fallen behind with my laundry, since I wash all my clothes by hand. I then air dry every piece one at a time by hanging the given item on a small clothesline that I have in my cell.
We're still on a semi-lockdown status due to the Coronavirus. I am, however, required to report to the chapel two days per week to help clean up the area, and do some paperwork if needed.
We've also been holding Bible studies in the chapel two evenings per week. I've been teaching the men about the seven churches that are featured in the Book of Revelation. While another member of the fellowship teaches on another day. While weekend worship services have yet to resume.
I have been keeping up with the news, and I'm sad to see the obvious increase in rebellion and lawlessness in our society. Yet the Scriptures warned of this. That crime and corruption would intensify as we approach what the Bible refers to as the "end of the age."
Yet while it is sad to see the overall increase of sin, and the rising levels of defiance to authorities, and the open displays of anger within society, my heart is filled with hopeful anticipation. Why? Because as Christ stated in the Scriptures concerning the last days, "When you see these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption is getting closer" (Luke 21:28).
For the followers of Messiah Jesus, this is not a time to hang our heads down, it's a time to look skyward with great expectation. We need never fear anything. We should never allow whatever problems we face to overwhelm us and keep us over-focused on them. We need to focus on the Lord instead.
This morning, I was going through the Old Testament's book known as the "Songs of Solomon." Frankly, I don't read this portion of the Scriptures all that often, but I do have a particular verse that I'm fond of. It is in the second chapter, and the second verse.
No matter what difficulties and unpleasant situations I may be facing on any given day, I am reminded that God has placed a banner over me, which is love. He loves me and watches over me even in the midst of my incarceration. His banner says, "David, my son, I love you and I will always be with you."
