And in hell he lifted up his
eyes, being in torments...

eyes, being in torments...

Suppose there really is a hell?
A place of eternal and everlasting torment? The Bible declares with certainty that there is such a place, and Christ came to make a Way for people to escape it.
Hell has been on my mind since receiving a letter from a missionary friend who is serving the Lord in Taiwan. She told me that the Lord has given her a “heavy burden” to warn people about the reality of such a place. She asked how I felt about it. In my response, I wrote the following:
“As for your desire to warn about hell, I agree this is a very overlooked and oftentimes
purposely avoided subject, even for many Christians. Hell is horrible, I’m sure. It’s beyond
anything one could imagine. To be in torment forever should be enough to scare the
daylights out of us. It should also propel Christians to go out and preach the gospel so that
others could escape eternal punishment, too. Sadly, for the most part, many in the church
are indifferent about it, and I’m guilty of this, as well. I know I could do a better job in
proclaiming the judgment that’s to come.
“As the disciples of Christ, we should be earnestly seeking out those who are still lost in their
sins. Like firefighters rushing into a burning building to rescue those who are trapped in
the flames, we must make the effort to rescue those who in their ignorance and headed
toward a flaming hell. So go for it. If the Lord has placed this upon your heart, go!'”
