The Lord builds up Jerusalem: He gathers
together the outcasts of Israel. He leads the
broken in heart, and binds up their wounds.
Psalm 147:2-3

Psalm 147:2-3
Earlier today, I wrote a letter to a friend who's a pastor...
In his letter, he was telling me about his passion to help and assist those who are considered by many to be outcasts of both society, and even the church. That he welcomes into his congregation
those who may find themselves ostracized by other churches for various reasons.
He and I are kindred souls. I replied in return by reminding him that this was why I spent much of my twenty-eight years at my previous facility working as a caregiver for those with various mental health related disabilities, along with being a trained "mobility guide" for the sight -impaired and physically handicapped.
I told him this has been what I believe to be my God given calling. That, like the Lord Jesus Christ, I am drawn to the downtrodden and brokenhearted. And to those who are depressed, despondent and hurting.
I shared that while I was at Sullivan Correctional Facility, I devoted a lot of my energy gladly helping those with "special needs." But that I am also feeling somewhat sad and out of place because I no longer have such opportunities, except in limited ways.
