The heavens declare the glory of God: and
the firmament showeth His handiwork.
Psalm 19:1
A violent thunderstorm ripped through the Hudson Valley earlier, bringing with it powerful winds and torrential rains...

Psalm 19:1
A violent thunderstorm ripped through the Hudson Valley earlier, bringing with it powerful winds and torrential rains...
I was surprised at its duration as it lasted well more than an hour. Dozens of thunderous booms pounded the prison, rattling windows. Weather alerts coming in on my portable radio reported power outages and flooding, too.
Later, however, with the ground still soaked, but the storm now passed, I went outdoors at eight o'clock for the evening's recreation period. And while it was still fairly light with dusk just beginning, and as I was walking the yard, a guard who had been walking in the opposite direction, suddenly turned to me and shouted, "Hey, Berkowitz, check out the rainbows!" I did.
Turning my head to the left and looking skyward to where the officer was pointing, were two huge rainbows, each a considerable distance apart. Both sparkling in regal beauty, they seemed to stretch for miles across the expanse of the sky. I was mesmerized.
I stood almost motionless, transfixed. I wasn't going to allow such a sight, to pass with only a casual viewing. Yet, I was surprised that the other prisoners, seeing the rainbows, gave them nothing more than a quick, indifferent glance.
I continued to stand in place, however. Sad that, as dusk slipped in, the rainbows began to fade. Soon the encroaching darkness would swallow what was left of them in a murky blackness. God's show was over.
