be peace; and the effect of righteousness
quietness and assurance for ever.

Isaiah 32:17
This Scripture verse from the book of the prophet, Isaiah, provided me today with great comfort...
Whenever a person recognizes the awful depravity of his sins and wishes to repent from them, and at the same time places his faith and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ and upon Christ's finished work on the cross of Calvary, God then forgives that individual immediately.
In addition, God now imparts His righteousness to him, and he is instantly placed in right standing with the Lord. In Christianity, this is termed "justification." It is just as if this man has never sinned, and it is nothing short of miraculous to experience such a perfect degree of mercy.
Furthermore, through faith in the Son of God, he has thereby made everlasting peace with God the Father. As it states in the New Testament letter to the Romans, "Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ" (Romans 5:1). How wonderful!
And with all this also comes quietness in one's heart and mind, and an assurance that his sins have been paid in full. He can now be cleansed from the effects of a guilty conscience. And then there's the assurance that one now possesses the gift of eternal life. For as it says in part in John 3:16, "Whosoever believes in the Son of God now has eternal life."
Yes, whoever places his faith in Jesus Christ will never go to hell. Instead, he will live with Christ, forever. These are the effects of righteousness.
