Yet what we suffer now is nothing compared
to the glory He will reveal to us later.

Romans 8:18 NLT
I just got back from this evening's Bible study class...
It went well, and I am thankful for yet another good session, as fifteen of us explored God's Word.
Tonight, I taught on the benefits of suffering, and why we as Christ's disciples are asked to, if need be, suffer for His sake. No doubt it's an odd topic. Why? Because we often view suffering and hardship as something negative, and a thing to avoid. But to the surprise of many Christians, some degree of suffering is expected because we live in a fallen world. In addition, the followers of Christ may encounter opposition to the message we carry that Jesus is Savior and Lord, and that in order to be forgiven of our misdeeds, we must come to God in the name of His Son, Jesus.
According to the holy Bible, we must come to God the Father by first placing our faith in Messiah Jesus, and on Jesus' sacrifice of Himself on the cross. "There is salvation in no one else! God has given no other name under heaven by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12).
We also looked at passages such as John 16:33, where Christ himself told us to expect suffering. Also, Romans 5:3-5, where the Word of God tells us to rejoice in our hardships and difficulties because this is how we develop endurance, which leads to inner strength; which then leads to developing good character and hope. But this is provided, of course, that we never lose our faith in Him.
It was a lively group. We all took turns reading from the Bible and sharing our thoughts. It was encouraging to see my brothers in the faith eager to learn more about our Lord. And as I always tell the men, I am learning right along with them. The lesson was for me, too.
